The telescope: a familiar sketch
A popular observer's guide to the telescope by the Irish naturalist and illustrator Mary Ward, published in 1876 for amateurs and beginning stargazers. The plates are small rectangular sky views — the Pleiades and nebulae as scattered white points on dense black grounds, plus a blank white solar disc carrying clusters of sunspots — usable as high-contrast star fields, dot textures and simple circular diagrams.
