Michael Faraday's six Royal Institution Christmas lectures on the chemistry of a candle, edited by William Crookes and published in London by Charles Griffin in 1865 for general and young readers. Small wood-engraved diagrams show flames, flasks, bladders, test tubes over water troughs and pneumatic apparatus, drawn in fine hatching against blank grounds—useful as isolated laboratory objects or line motifs.
