The new republic, or, Culture, faith, and philosophy in an English country house [electronic resource]
W. H. Mallock's satirical novel of talk among cultured guests in an English country house, reissued in London by Chatto & Windus in 1895 for a general reading public. The plates mix a stipple-engraved portrait head, a chromolithographed couple on a seaside terrace, a heavy black flower-and-knot ornament, and trade cuts from bound-in carpet and furniture advertisements.
