Les aérostats
A popular French history of ballooning by science writer Louis Figuier, published in Paris by Furne, Jouvet et Cie in 1887 for general readers following the rise of aeronautics. Wood-engraved plates show gas balloons, winged and cigar-shaped airships with rigging and gondolas over hatched skies, plus crowds massed around launch sites at town squares and garden pavilions.
