A technical account of Henri Giffard's steam-powered captive balloon at the Cour des Tuileries, written by Gaston and Albert Tissandier and published by G. Masson in Paris in 1878 for engineers and readers following aeronautics. The plates are line engravings: hydrogen-generating plant with vats and piping, sectioned views of the eight-part balloon envelope and its netting, winch drums and cable gearing, and crowd scenes with figures drawn to scale beside the machinery.
