Le sabbat de sorciers
A study of the witches' sabbath issued in 1890 by Paris medical publisher Progrès Médical, edited by the alienist Désiré-Magloire Bourneville with E. Teinturier for doctors reading demonology as a history of hysteria. The 33 plates reproduce early seventeenth-century woodcuts: horned, bat-winged devils receiving kneeling initiates, candle-bearing processions and ruled hatch skies, useful for coarse-line occult figure work.
