A German numismatic catalogue by Ludwig Pfeiffer and C. Ruland, published at Tübingen in 1882, recording medals and coins struck during plagues and epidemics for physicians, historians and coin collectors. Photographic plates group numbered medals against black grounds: crucifixions, allegorical figures, skeletal Death among the sick, city views, inscriptions and laurel wreaths in low relief, useful as circular emblems, seal shapes and lettered borders.
