Duodecim specula deum aliquando videre desideranti concinnata
A Jesuit emblem book of twelve "mirrors" for meditation, written by Jan David, engraved by Theodoor Galle and printed by Jan Moretus at the Plantin press in Antwerp in 1610 for Catholic readers examining their conduct. The plates are dense allegorical engravings with letters keyed to the text: kneeling figures before a mirror-altar, evangelist symbols in roundels, flaming hearts, banderoles of Latin text, plus a strapwork woodcut headpiece with putti and a small radiant bust of Christ.
