Elements of natural philosophy (Volume 1)
A two-volume physics textbook on mechanics, acoustics, and optics by William Holms Chambers Bartlett, professor at the U.S. Military Academy, published in New York by Barnes in 1850 for cadets and college students. The 241 figures are small woodcut line diagrams — catenary and parabolic curves, circles and ellipses with marked foci, force arrows, spring balances and pivoted linkages — all keyed by italic capitals, useful as sparse geometric line art and vector notation.
