Air Wonder Stories, Vol. 1, No. 7 (January 1930)
An issue of Air Wonder Stories, the aviation science-fiction pulp magazine Hugo Gernsback published monthly in New York, dated January 1930 and aimed at a readership of hobbyist aviators and young pulp fiction fans. The story-opening pages pair hand-lettered display titles with full-page line drawings by Frank R. Paul and others, showing aircraft over exploding seas, storm clouds, rooftop airfields and meteor swarms, all drawn in dense pen hatching that a designer can lift for headline lettering, stippled cloud and smoke textures, or vintage machine silhouettes.
