Amazing Stories Volume 01 Number 01
The first issue of Amazing Stories, the pulp science-fiction magazine Hugo Gernsback launched in New York in 1926, mixing reprints of Verne, Wells and Poe with new stories for a popular readership. Pen-and-ink story illustrations use dense hatching and solid blacks: a giant man striding over a toy-sized car, ray-emitting towers, suited men in offices, hand-lettered titles and caption blocks.
