The June 1926 issue of Amazing Stories, the pulp science-fiction monthly Hugo Gernsback launched in New York for a readership of amateur scientists and radio hobbyists, reprinting Wells and Verne alongside new stories. Frank R. Paul's full-page story openers combine hand-lettered display titles with dense pen-and-ink crosshatch scenes — laboratory tables, collapsing cities, bulb-headed future men — and a ruled caption line at the foot.
