Amazing Stories Quarterly, Vol. 1, No. 1 (Winter 1928)
The first issue of Amazing Stories Quarterly, Hugo Gernsback's science fiction pulp, printed in New York in the winter of 1928 for American newsstand readers, carrying stories by H. G. Wells, Earl L. Bell and Edward S. Sears. Story-opening plates, mostly by Frank R. Paul, show crowds watching a swollen moon, terraced skyscrapers threaded with airship gantries, and laboratory lecture scenes, drawn in dense pen hatching with flat applied color.
