Amazing Stories, Vol. 1, No. 2 (May 1926)
Amazing Stories for May 1926, the second issue of Hugo Gernsback's New York pulp monthly, carried reprints by Jules Verne and H. G. Wells for a readership of hobbyist and popular-science readers. Frank R. Paul's story headings and captioned plates use dense pen hatching and solid blacks for diving helmets, balloon gondolas, comets and winged Martians, giving stark silhouettes, ray effects and hand-lettered titles.
