Golden Days Volume 9 Number 10 (February 4, 1888)

1888 · 14 pictures

An issue of Golden Days for Boys and Girls, the weekly story paper published by James Elverson in Philadelphia, dated February 4, 1888, carrying serial fiction and humour for young readers. The plates are wood-engraved story vignettes and pen cartoons: a man lunging after barnyard hens, a circular winter-fireside scene ringed by bare branches and a sleigh, a village crowd on a street, and a spot drawing of a boy and a spectacled woman, useful for period costume, rural props, and vignette frames that bleed into open page.
