How men fly

Bacon, Gertrude, 1874-1949 · 1911 · London ; New York ; Toronto ; Melbourne : Cassell and Company · 16 pictures

A short juvenile account of early aviation written by Gertrude Bacon and published by Cassell in 1911 for British and colonial schoolchildren. Halftone photographs show pioneer biplanes and monoplanes on grass fields, their wire-braced frames, propellers, skids and bicycle wheels legible as line-like silhouettes against pale sky — useful for aircraft profiles and machine-diagram cutouts.
