Introductorium astronomicum, theorias coporum coelestium duobus libris complectens: adiecto commentario declaratum
A Latin introduction to astronomy by the humanist Jacques Lefèvre d'Étaples, printed in 1517 for university students working through Ptolemaic theories of the planets. The woodcuts are nested-circle diagrams of planetary orbs, eccentrics and epicycles, with solid black rings against white bands, small circled epicycle centres and italic letter keys set directly into the text block, useful as flat geometric emblems or as models for annotated circular charts.
