First year weaving
A technical primer on cotton weaving by James Holmes, issued at Burnley around 1890 for apprentices and powerloom operatives in the Lancashire mills. The plates are point-paper weave diagrams: grids filled with solid black squares, hatched cells and dotted marks that build twills, checks and diaper repeats, offering ready-made modular patterns and halftone-like grid textures.
