This book, belonging to Henrich Woolhever, Bertytown, near York, Septem. 25th, 1821
A handwritten weaver's draft book kept by Henrich Woolhever at Bertytown near York, Pennsylvania, in 1821, made as a working reference for a Pennsylvania German handloom weaver. The pages are pen-and-ink grids filled with dotted threading rows, blocked tie-ups and ruled diagonal treadling lines, yielding modular dot-and-square patterns, hatched lattices and stepped chevrons that convert directly into repeat motifs, borders and monochrome textures.
