Folio of embroidery designs

1800 · 46 pictures

A working pattern book of embroidery designs from about 1800, its pages pasted with hand-painted point-paper studies made by a needlework or textile workshop for craftswomen and manufacturers to copy. The gouache designs sit on ruled graph grids: vertical floral stripes, scattered sprigs, serpentine vines, dense allover dots in pink and lilac, and larger chrysanthemum and rose motifs, all usable as repeat patterns, borders, or grid-based color studies.
