Florence home needle-work
An annual needlework instruction and pattern manual issued by the Nonotuck Silk Company of Florence, Massachusetts, in 1894 to promote its silk threads to home knitters, crocheters and embroiderers. The plates are high-contrast reproductions of stitch samples photographed against black grounds, so pale loops, cables, nets and knotted macramé read as crisp repeating textures for tiles, borders, backgrounds and monogram-style motifs.
