Schön neues Modelbuch
A needlework pattern book issued by Georg Beatus at Frankfurt am Main in 1601, printed for embroiderers and lacemakers copying designs onto linen. The 126 plates are white-line woodcuts in which dotted stitch patterns stand out from a solid black ground: running borders, zigzag vandyke points, lozenge fillings, urns of flowers, crowns, and facing birds, useful as repeatable band ornament, counted-grid textures, and edge motifs.
