More magic
A conjuring manual by Professor Hoffmann (Angelo Lewis), published in Philadelphia by D. McKay in 1890 as a sequel to his Modern Magic, written to teach sleights and stage apparatus to amateur performers. The wood engravings isolate cuffed hands gripping playing cards or palming balls against blank ground, alongside upright stage props — card boxes, a candlestick topped with a court card — often keyed with small italic letters, giving designers ready-cut hand gestures and small mechanical objects.
