Max von Boehn's Die Mode, volume one, a German history of dress and manners issued in Munich by F. Bruckmann in 1919 for readers and students of costume. The plates reproduce hand-coloured European fashion engravings of about 1790 to 1825: single figures and couples on blank or sketchy ground, high-waisted gowns, bonnets, greatcoats and boots, useful as period silhouettes and muted colour reference.
