Polly and the wishing ring
A 1924 children's fantasy novel by Margaret Johnson, issued by the Macmillan Company in New York for young readers, with plates by the Hungarian-American illustrator Willy Pogány. The plates are pen-contour drawings filled with flat washes of tan, slate blue and olive, figures placed against bare paper in a book-lined parlour or an empty snowfield; useful for confident outline work, three-colour limited palettes and compositions that leave most of the page blank.
