Science Wonder Stories, Vol. 1, No. 5 (October 1929)
The October 1929 issue of Science Wonder Stories, the pulp science-fiction magazine Hugo Gernsback edited from New York for Stellar Publishing, carrying stories by David H. Keller, Walter Kately and others. A painted cover of helmeted figures wired to thought-reading machines is followed by interior ink plates in dense black line and stipple, each with hand-drawn display lettering, laboratory apparatus built of coils, dials and vacuum tubes, and giant insects; useful for retro-futurist machine detail and lettering models.
