Weird Tales, Vol. 2, No. 1 (July–August 1923)
The July–August 1923 issue of Weird Tales, a monthly American horror and fantasy pulp printed in Chicago for newsstand readers, with a painted cover by R. M. Mally and pen-and-ink story illustrations by staff artists. Pictures are high-contrast black-and-white: a bare-chested man fleeing past a dark tree mass on the cover, and interiors built from flat ink silhouettes, shadow pools and sparse hatching that designers can lift as figure-and-shadow shapes or period pulp lettering.
