Weird Tales, Vol. 8, No. 1 (July 1926)
An issue of the Chicago pulp magazine Weird Tales from July 1926, edited by Farnsworth Wright and sold on newsstands to readers of horror, occult and science fiction, with story headpieces drawn in pen and ink by the magazine's staff illustrators. The pictures are banner-shaped story openers combining hand-lettered titles, a scene of violence or menace, and a boxed caption quoting the text: a pistol drawn at close range, a woman with unbound hair, a carnivorous orchid swallowing a figure, a corpse on a table — usable as vignette scenes, display lettering, and caption-box layouts.
