Aberglaube und zauberei von den ältesten zeiten an bis in die gegenwart

Lehmann, Alfred, 1858-1921 · 1898 · Stuttgart, F. Enke · 3 pictures

A German-language survey of superstition and magic from antiquity to the nineteenth century, written by the Danish experimental psychologist Alfred Lehmann and published by F. Enke in Stuttgart in 1898 for educated general and scientific readers. The plates mix reproduced early woodcuts, such as a crowded Blocksberg witches' sabbath with flying figures and devils, with blunt reprinted line drawings of horned beasts and ringed branching diagrams, offering designers stark black-on-cream occult motifs and naive contour figures.
