Aberglaube und zauberei von den ältesten zeiten an bis in die gegenwart
Alfred Lehmann's German survey of superstition and magic from antiquity to the 1890s, published by F. Enke in Stuttgart in 1898, which explained occult phenomena through laboratory psychology for scientifically minded readers. The plates are smoked-drum recordings of involuntary movement: thin white traces on solid black, cut by vertical timing rules and labelled with roman numerals and decimals, usable as high-contrast line graphics.
