Abridged catalogue of oil paintings by British artists and foreigners working in Great Britain; containing only works exhibited in the galleries
An abridged 1908 gallery handlist from the National Gallery of British Art, printed in London by H.M. Stationery Office for visitors walking the rooms, listing oil paintings by British and resident foreign artists. The plates are soft grey halftone reproductions of those paintings, several printed sideways on the page: dense crowd scenes and village gatherings, an interior with seated figures at a table, and a flat wet shoreline with wading figures under open sky, useful for massed-figure silhouettes and low-contrast tonal backgrounds.
