Académiciens d'autrefois
A study of members of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture by André Fontaine, published in Paris by Henri Laurens in 1914 for readers of French art history. The 51 halftone plates reproduce seventeenth- and eighteenth-century paintings, drawings and engravings, including seated portraits with books, religious and mythological groups, and garden scenes with figures and fountains, all in soft, grainy grey tone useful as texture or period reference.
