An account of the tournament at Eglinton

Gordon, W, Aikman, James · 1839 · Edinburgh : Hugh Paton, carver and gilder · 9 pictures

A souvenir record of the Eglinton Tournament of 1839, the Earl of Eglinton's revival of medieval jousting in Ayrshire, published in Edinburgh by the carver and gilder Hugh Paton with text by James Aikman and plates after W. Gordon, sold to spectators and antiquarian subscribers. The hand-coloured lithographs show mounted knights in plumed helmets, heralds, halberd-bearing retainers in parti-coloured hose, striped pavilions and crowded galleries under trees, useful for heraldic banners, tournament costume and processional crowd staging.
