Achillis Bocchii Bonon. Symbolicarum quaestionum, de vniuerso genere, quas serio ludebat, libri quinque
A Latin emblem book by the Bolognese humanist Achille Bocchi, reissued in Bologna in 1574 with 150-odd copperplate engravings by Giulio Bonasone after designs by Prospero Fontana, addressed to learned readers of allegory and antiquity. The plates set nude and draped classical figures, gods, satyrs, centaurs and armoured soldiers in open landscapes with ruins and tablets, each carrying a Latin motto on a scroll or stone; useful for banner-and-lettering devices, allegorical attributes, and finely hatched figure groups.
