Achillis Bocchii Bonon. Symbolicarvm qvaestionvm, de vniverso genere, quas serio ludebat, libri qvinqve
An emblem book by the Bolognese humanist Achille Bocchi, first issued 1555 and reprinted at Bologna in 1574, with engraved plates by Giulio Bonasone for Latin-reading scholars who matched each motto to a moralized picture. The 153 plates are fine-line copper engravings in small upright frames: mythological and Roman-historical figures on open ground or in coffered interiors, lettered banderoles and inscribed tablets, useful for cut-out figures, scroll labels, and hatched cloud and landscape fills.
