Adventures among pictures
Art essays by the English critic and editor C. Lewis Hind, published in London by A. and C. Black in 1904 for gallery-going readers following contemporary and old-master painting. The plates are coarse-screen halftones of paintings, mostly single figures and small groups in heavy shadow, useful for grainy monochrome texture, silhouetted dark masses against pale cloth, and dramatic figure poses.
