Oraeus, Henricus, 1584-1646 · 1620 · Francofvrti : Apud Iacobum de Zetter · 104 pictures

An emblem book of Christian theosophy compiled by Henricus Oraeus and printed by Jacob de Zetter at Frankfurt in 1620, with Latin, German and French verses for learned Protestant readers. The 104 small horizontal copperplate engravings set labelled personifications, triumphal chariots drawn by rams and horses, skeletons, seasons and armed allegories in open landscapes with distant towns and ruins, each figure named in engraved lettering above it — useful for allegorical figure types, captioned diagram-like staging, and dense line shading.
