The aeroplane in war
A 1912 survey of military aviation by pioneer aviator Claude Grahame-White and journalist Harry Harper, issued in Toronto by Bell and Cockburn for a general readership following the new air services. The halftone photographs show early biplanes and monoplanes on grass fields, pilots in open seats, engines and propellers close up, and crowds of onlookers, useful for strut-and-wire silhouettes and grainy grey-scale texture.
