Albert Dürer, his life and works
Moritz Thausing's two-volume biography of Albrecht Dürer, translated by Frederick Eaton and published by John Murray in London in 1882 for art historians and collectors. Reproductions of Dürer's woodcut initials, monograms and pen flourishes: heavy black letterforms inset with helmeted figures, winged sirens, heraldic eagles and vine scrollwork, some printed in red, plus looping calligraphic tailpieces useful as drop caps and ornament.
