Eduard Sachau's 1910 London edition of al-Biruni's eleventh-century account of Indian religion, philosophy, chronology and astrology, issued by Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner for orientalists and students of Sanskrit learning. The images captured here are not text illustrations but repeated endpaper impressions of the University of California, Los Angeles library seal — a looped monogram cipher ringed by lettering, printed pale grey on cream — useful as ornamental monogram forms, circular type arrangements and faded stamp textures.
