Album of Scottish Scenery : a Series of Views, Illustrating Several Places of Interest Mentioned in Sir W. Scott's Poems and Novels
A gift album of Scottish topographical views compiled by John Tillotson and published by T.J. Allman in London in 1860, pairing steel-engraved scenes with passages from Walter Scott's poems and novels for Victorian readers and tourists. The plates are tonal landscape engravings — lochs under wide blank skies, castles and abbeys set small against hills, foreground rocks and gnarled trees framing the view, tiny figures for scale — useful for atmospheric backgrounds, engraved sky and water textures, and ruin silhouettes.
