Almanach de la littérature du théatre et des beaux-arts
A French yearbook of literature, theatre and the fine arts edited by the critic Jules Janin, issued in Paris by Pagnerre in 1853 for readers following the season's writers, actors and artists. The plates are wood-engraved bust portraits, mostly head-and-shoulders against blank or lightly hatched grounds, with close attention to ringlets, lace collars, bow cravats and off-shoulder bodices; useful for period costume detail and for engraved faces that cut out cleanly.
