Alte Denkmäler der Kunst
Johann Joachim Winckelmann's Alte Denkmäler der Kunst, published in Berlin by Christian Ludewig Stahlbaum in 1780, is a German antiquarian catalogue of ancient Greek and Roman monuments, gems and reliefs, made for scholars and collectors of classical art. The engraved plates are numbered outline drawings of nude gods, winged figures, draped priestesses and altars, some framed in ovals against ruled hatched grounds, offering clean contour figures and blank-field oval cartouches that can be cut out and recombined.
