Amazing Stories, Jul 1926

1926 · 6 pictures

Amazing Stories was the first magazine devoted to science fiction, launched in 1926 by Hugo Gernsback's Experimenter Publishing in New York for a popular American readership of technically minded hobbyists and adventure-story readers. The story-opening plates combine hand-lettered titles with dense pen-and-ink scenes—a laboratory lit by glowing apparatus, a crowd fleeing a giant insect over city rooftops, figures climbing a tree—usable as display lettering, crosshatched interiors, and crowd-panic silhouettes.
