The American archaeologist [serial]

1898 · Columbus, Ohio : Landon Print. and Pub. Co. · 88 pictures

An 1898 volume of a monthly archaeological serial issued in Columbus, Ohio, by the Landon Printing and Publishing Company for collectors, relic hunters, and amateur students of North American antiquities. The plates are coarse-screen halftone photographs of stone artifacts — grooved axes, celts, pestles, hammerstones, a pipe — grouped several to a page with hand-inked catalogue numbers against flat grey grounds, useful as silhouetted object shapes, specimen-grid layouts, and examples of grainy early halftone texture.
