The American dyer, (enlarged and revised) : a practical treatise on the coloring of wool, cotton, yarn and cloth, also, calico-printing ... containing seventy samples of wool, cotton yarn, and cloth; sample of black on raw cotton, colored at one operation; embracing, in all, over four hundred recipes
A practical dyeing manual by Richard H. Gibson, printed in Boston in 1878 for mill dyers and calico printers, pairing over four hundred recipes with seventy mounted samples of wool, cotton yarn and cloth. The plates are photographed skeins of dyed thread laid flat on pale paper, each a horizontal bundle of twisted strands in browns, greens and near-blacks, useful as texture fills, color references for period dye palettes, or rule-like horizontal elements.
