Mariana Griswold Van Rensselaer's survey of American etchers, reprinted from the Century magazine of February 1883 and issued by the print dealer Frederick Keppel & Co. in New York in 1886 for collectors and print buyers. The thirty plates reproduce etchings of harbors, fishing sheds, dunes and breaking surf in loose open line, useful for hatched water, scrubby vegetation and weathered waterfront buildings.
