Americans of gentle birth and their ancestors : a genealogical encyclopedia ... embracing many authenticated lineages and biographical sketches of the founders of the colonies and their descendants found in all parts of the United States
A two-volume American genealogical encyclopedia compiled by Hannah Daviess Pittman and Rosa Kershaw Walker, published in St. Louis by Buxton & Skinner in 1903 for families tracing colonial descent. The plates are halftone bust portraits of women and men set inside engraved oval frames with scrollwork, laurel wreaths, beaded borders and cartouche finials, giving designers ready-made portrait surrounds, decorative corner ornaments and period costume detail.
