Veitch, F. P. (Fletcher Pearre), 1868-1943, Rogers, J. S. (Jerome Stanley), b. 1884 · 1918 · Washington, D.C. : U.S. Dept. of Agriculture · 5 pictures

A 1918 U.S. Department of Agriculture bulletin by Fletcher P. Veitch and Jerome S. Rogers, written to show American tanners and dyers which native sumacs yield usable tannin and dye. The plates are halftone photographs of pressed compound leaves and fruit clusters laid flat against pale grounds, often paired for comparison beside an inch rule, giving designers silhouetted leaf specimens, ladder-like leaflet rhythms, and letter keys.
