An emblem book of divine love by the Antwerp painter Otto van Veen, engraved with his brother Gijsbert and issued by the Plantin press under Balthasar Moretus in 1660, with accompanying verses including Spanish by Alonso de Ledesma for devotional readers. Each plate pairs two winged children — haloed Divine Love with bow and arrows and the soul in a long gown — acting out a lesson in open country with hill towns, church towers, single trees and sailboats, all built from fine engraved hatching that leaves broad pale skies and radiating light.
